One of the buzz words in today corporate world is "think out of the box". In today world, one of the hottest requirements in recruitment advertisement is think out of the box. What is think out of the box? Is it means that think in nontraditional way? Maybe! Is it means that creative in problem solving? Maybe! Let’s look at the below stories.
First think out of the box story, there was a boy who inserted his finger inside the nose to clean the nose. Unfortunately, he cannot pull out his finger. His mother helped to pull out his finger but failed. Unfortunately, his father also failed to pull out the finger from the nose. Father and mother brought their son to doctor. The doctor also does not have idea how to help the boy. Since the doctor unable to do anything, the parents decided to bring their son to see the wise old man in the village. Anyway, the wise old man unable to work it out too. As the last resort, the parents brought the son to the rocket scientist. After some scientific analysis and attempts, the rocket scientist gave up. All of them have no idea on it. Suddenly, the younger sister of the boy shouted out that she knew the solution. Everybody was wondering what she going to do. She went to her brother and moved her finger up and down at her brother’s rib. The boy felt very funny and pulled out his finger from his nose!
Second think out of the box story, there were 2 soap manufacturers in the town. Both deliver soap in box to their customer. Each small box contains a single soap. Sometimes, they received complaints from their customers that they had delivered empty box without soap. To reduce the customer complaint, both of them came out with different solutions. Manufacturer A had bought a high technology expensive scanning machine to scan the content inside the box before delivered out. This will make sure soap always inside the small box before sending out to customers. Of course, a lot of money had been invested on that high technology scanning machine. On the other hand, manufacturer B had bought a cheap standing fan and placed it beside the conveyor after packing. If the box is empty, the box will be blown away. This can also prevent the empty box being delivered out. As you can read, there are different solutions to solve a same problem.
Above are instances of think out of the box. There are many solutions for problem solving in our life. If you can think out of the box, you can solve a problem easily and with minimum cost. As you know, money and time are limited. A think out of the box solution will involve less money and simultaneously less time to carry out.
So, what is think out of the box? As you can see from the stories above, one of the common key features for think out of the box is simplicity. Solve the problem with simple solution is the key. Remember, simple! Keep it simple stupid.
